There have been lots of times that I wondered if I handled success better than failure. The expression “you are your own worst enemy” rings true for most of us. How many times have we acted against our self-interest, then asked ourselves why did we self-destruct? It seems that changing these behaviors makes us anxious, because it means challenging deeply engrained, old and familiar attitudes that we’ve long held about ourselves.
There is a touch of madness in me. I suspect that we all have our own pathology. When I act out in ‘safe’ foolishness or create a frenzy of activity and responsibility it is often a reaction to too much comfort. I don’t expect it to continue so I can often undermine the situation if I am not mindful of where the urges to escalate foolishness and frenzy into a danger zone are coming from.
As in most things being aware is a great first step but awareness doesn’t necessarily proceed action. I need to take the time and put in the effort in to build up my reserves of my very own sense of our unique values, ideals and beliefs. Then I can consciously draw from the reserves and keep my behavior in the daffy and silly range.
Make Today Silly,
